I spend a lot of my time asking my kids “Is that appropriate behavior?” and “How will your actions affect other people?”
I’m trying to teach them that they don’t exist in a vacuum and that they HAVE to think about the consequences of their actions.
I’m starting to think the concept that our actions have an impact on those around us is limited only to children.
I am so sick of hearing about adults making poor choices.
So sick of hearing how people can’t keep their hands to themselves, how people invade other’s personal space, and how people continually use their words to hurt and harass others.
I can’t be the only person appalled by the string of sexual harassment reports?
The only thing thing running through my mind is “are you freaking kidding me?”
I’m going to dust off my soapbox for a few minutes.
It’s been some time since I dragged out the soapbox, but it’s time.
Ok climbing up on the soapbox.
I’m appalled by the recent reports of sexual harassment.
Why do so many people lack common decency?
How hard is it to keep your hands (and other body parts) to yourself?
On what planet is that behavior appropriate, social acceptable, or condoned?
How have so many people gotten away with this behavior for so long?
Why aren’t we IRRATE as a society?
Why aren’t we clambering for the resignation of elected officials who have participated in these horrifying acts of violence against other people?
Why aren’t we boycotting the products and films created and marketed by the people found engaging in these terrible acts?
Why aren’t we just horrified?
Why aren’t we demanding people stand up for morality?
Why aren’t people held to the standards of decency that we claim to uphold?
How did we get to the point that we shrug off so many of these accusations? How have we gotten to the point where any of these issues are ignored, accepted, and justified.
These acts aren’t acceptable.
They just aren’t.
If I can tell my kids that it isn’t acceptable to hit their sibling, walk in on people using the bathroom, or run naked through the house, then as a society we can most certainly tell people not to harass others.
Get it together people.
Keep your freaking hands, comments, and other items to yourselves.
Think about other people’s feelings.
and seriously… no seriously, keep your freaking hands to yourself.
