I LOVE the start of school.
I mean I may like it even more than I like Christmas… which as a former professional gift wrapper is a lot.
I loved the start of school as a kid and I love it even MORE as a parent.
The start of school is the beginning of something new and fresh.
I know that spring is a time for new beginnings, but I’m going to be honest, spring is actually just a slow allergy ridden countdown to summer.
The start of school on the other hand is the beginning of fall, the beginning of college football (of which I’m only a casual observer), and the beginning of the the holiday season (yes it starts the day after Labor Day).
It’s the end of the horrible summer heat (unless you live in Texas when it is just the imagined end… but still imagined or not, it’s an end).
The start of school marks the beginning of apple and pumpkin flavored everything, the beginning of sweater weather (well not in TX), switching out flip flops for cozy moccasins, and shorter days.
Kids are still excited for learning, every assignment is fun and exciting, instead of drudgery.
Sports are starting, and after a long summer off, parents are excited to sit in the bleachers for 3-5 innings of Little League.
The days are shorter, and the nights are perfect for settling in with a good book, movie, or project.
Plus the holidays are coming! Sure they’re still months away, but I love the anticipation of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas even more than the actual days.
So if you couldn’t tell already, I LOVE the start of school. I love the fall… and as an added bonus… I love that school means the whining, crying, and overall unhappy screaming has significantly diminished at my house.
Happy Fall Y’all!
