Since there is no school tomorrow I thought this was the perfect opportunity to introduce my kids to “spooks in the dark”, the terrifying and amazing game from my childhood.
When I suggested this to Mr. Spreadsheets he looked at me like I was crazy.
I am not sure if spooks in the dark is something my brothers invented or if this is something normal people play. Basically you turn off all the lights, one person is the “spook” and the rest of the people try and run around the room before they are grabbed.
It’s terrifying, it would have given them nightmares.
We settled on Sardines instead.
They love hide and seek so this seemed perfect.
Except… that during the first round AsthmaMan was the only one left searching while the rest of us were hiding together.
He was mad and sad, there were lots of tears.
We played a few more rounds and he was fine, but he held the initial loneliness against us.
Then it was bedtime and he did not want to sleep alone.
We tried to convince Harry Potter to have a sleepover, fail. Harry Potter hates sleepovers.
So we opted for the Princess, she has an extra bed in her room it seemed perfect.
It wasn’t.
They lasted about five minutes before both of them were crying.
AsthmaMan was running up and down the stairs, the Princess had thrown most of her stuff out of the bed, it was beautiful.
We separated them, they’re both sad, and Harry Potter slept through the whole fiasco.
Playing the game seemed like an awesome idea, but maybe I forgot to consider some of the potential issues, or really any potential issues.
